Sejko: Increase of inflation, temporary effect

TIRANA, Feb 2 /ATA/ “Inflation is expected to run above the Bank of Albania’s target of 3% during 2022, as a result of high prices in international markets.”

This is what the Governor of the BoA, Gent Sejko, said at the press conference, where he stressed that “this shock is expected to have temporary effects.”

“Our analysis and that of international institutions suggest that markets will normalize during the first half of this year and that the effect of foreign shocks on Albanian inflation will wane,” said the Governor.

According to him, inflation is projected to return steadily to the 3% target, starting from 2023. While the return and stabilization of inflation around the target will be supported by reducing supply shocks and a good balance of supply and demand in the economy and employment growth and wages in line with productivity.
