TIRANA, January 21 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that Ilir Meta was elected president by his votes, not by the votes of the Socialist Party.
Rama stressed that the Parliament dismissed Ilir Meta from office by secret ballot, but the procedure for formalizing the dismissal or not of the President goes through the Constitutional Court.
During an online conversation with citizens regarding the justice reform and January 21, when asked why the President of the Republic Ilir Meta, who was the cause of the January 21 protest, was promoted to a higher position, Rama said, “I say, Ilir “Meta was elected president by his votes, not by our votes.”
“We did not have the necessary votes to elect the President of the Republic, we did not have them, because if we had the votes we would certainly not elect Ilir Meta, but we did not have the votes. And between an evil like election of Ilir Meta and another much greater evil like that of pushing the country into a chaotic process, from the beginning, we chose the lesser evil”, said Rama.
Moreover, Rama added, “We had the conviction to give the President to the opposition”.
“I said on the first day, when Ilir Meta had not yet cropped up in public that there was a fifth column of the opposition. It’s so simple,” he said./j.p/r.e/p.s./
