TIRANA, December 12 /ATA/ Head of National Agency for Civil Protection Haki Çako stated today that there are no massive floods in spite of the Vjosa River overflowing its banks at certain points.
Speaking to reporters, Çako said that, “In Ferras village, there are some houses that are filled with water and 3 families have been evacuated”.
“The heavy rainfall that has continued for almost two days all over the country has caused the Vjosa River and other rivers overflow their banks. Vjosa River is at the maximum levels”, said Çako.
According to him, “The relevant structures have been on alert throughout the night in the region of Fier and Vlora and have taken measures to prevent any problems or concerns of the local residents.”
“I say, although the waters have reached the maximum level, there is no massive floods. In Ferras, there are some houses with water presence, 3 families have been evacuated and currently the evacuation process is continuing “, said Çako.
He assured that, “All capacities of local and central government structures have been made available”.
“The increased water level in the rivers do not pose any risk to the residents or their houses. There is expected a decrease in the Vjosa River inflows, which is seen in the level of the water that is falling in Memaliaj, where the inflows of the Vjosa and Drino rivers are concentrated. Likewise there is no problem in Vlora, by the side of Mifol Bridge. The relevant units have worked all night closing a crack in the embankment of the river, which might cause serious problems for the entire area of Novosela and Mifol “, said Çako. /m.m/j.p/p.s./
