Rama wishes Youth Day: December 8 remains as new as ever

TIRANA, Dec 8 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama wished on Wednesday the Youth Day, while announcing that in 2022 Tirana will be the European Youth Capital.

“Good morning and with the day as new as ever, December 8, which is dedicated only to young people, and with Tirana, which in 2022 will be the European Capital of Youth, I wish you a beautiful day,” said Rama, while sharing the promotional video.

December 8 is marked as National Youth Day. Since 2009, by a decision of the Albanian Parliament, this date is commemorated as a national holiday in honor of all December 1990 students and all Albanian youth.

On December 8, 1990, a group of students and professors of Tirana universities, became the initiators and protagonists of a turning point in history, the peaceful protests that brought about the fall of the communist system and the birth of democracy.

The 1990 Student Movement is the only peaceful movement that changed the history of Albania.
Their public act, which is as civic as political, peacefully ended the lengthy era of self-isolation and ideological rule, paving the way for a market economy and an open society.

The values of this day have a national significance, because unlike other events, December 8 has never been identified with two sides, a winner and a loser./m.m/j.p/sm/
