Reform of water supply system to be launched

TIRANA, Nov 10 /ATA/ The sector of water supply system will undergo a profound reform designed to improve the delivery of service.

Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, stated on Wednesday that a profound reform will get underway to enhance management.

“The government’s strategy includes constant investments to improve the water supply system throughout the country. So far, over 900 million euros have been invested in this sector and despite the improvement of technical conditions, the impact is far from the standards. To that end, we are working out a comprehensive reform designed to improve the management,” the minister told a media briefing after the government meeting.
The minster assured that this reform will not encroach on local autonomy.

“There are several options under discussion, from enterprise aggregation to co-management between local and central government,” the minister said.

According to Balluku, in the framework of this reform, the experts from MIE and AKUM (National Water Supply and Sewerage Agency) will start a tour in all municipalities.

Balluku added that the government meeting also approved three decisions for expropriations, which pave the way for continuation of works on the construction of the Vlora bypass, the project for revitalization of the Patoz centre and the water supply system in Roskovec. /a.a/sm/
