European Anti-Trafficking Day, OSCE launches three-day training program

TIRANA, Oct 18 /ATA/-By I.Vata/ – A  three-day simulation-based training on combating human trafficking – the first of this kind in Albania – started in Tirana on Monday, on the European Anti-Trafficking Day.

The training, organized by the OSCE Presence and the Office of the OSCE Special Representative and Coordinator for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, promotes an innovative approach to anti-trafficking capacity development.

“The OSCE Presence in Albania has long prioritized the fight against trafficking of human beings, and this simulation-based training encapsulates many core elements of our commitment – to pursuing a human-rights based, victim-centred approach, to advancing multi-stakeholder, inter-institutional co-ordination, to applying cutting edge tools to develop capacities and respond,” Ambassador Vincenzo Del Monaco said at the opening ceremony,” the Head of the OSCE Presence in Albania, Ambassador Vincenzo Del Monaco said in his opening remarks.

He said that, in addition to being a terrible crime, trafficking in human beings is, first and foremost, a violation of human rights, and we all carry a deep the responsibility to counter this tragic scourge. “Indeed, no institution or individual can work alone in tackling trafficking in human beings. As in every common challenge the solution is never in me, but is always in me,” he said.

“No institution or individuals would be able to work alone in tackling trafficking in human beings but this is a shared challenge,” Monaco added.

The Deputy Interior Minister Romina Kuko, Deputy Health Minister Denada Seferi, UNICEF representative in Albania Roberto de Bernardi and British Embassy’s Harriet Morgan addressed the event.

During the three-day training around 40 anti-trafficking practitioners will engage in real-time simulated scenarios to identify and investigate human trafficking and assist trafficked persons in a victim-centred and human rights-based manner. The targeted training participants are social workers, police officers, prosecutors, labour inspectors, and civil society organizations.

This training activity is part of the Anti-Human Trafficking programme funded by the United Kingdom Government and implemented by a consortium of organizations, included by the OSCE Presence and led by UNICEF Albania.
