TIRANA, October 7 /ATA/ A new fire truck funded by Japan’s Grant scheme “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects”(GGP) was handed over to Kruja Municipality. With the new vehicle, provided by the Grant amounting to EUR 75,000, the effectiveness of the Municipality’s Fire Protection and Rescue Department will improve, through the strengthening of the lifesaving abilities in case of fires and the historical heritage protection system.
On this occasion, the Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Mr. TAKADA Mitsuyuki reaffirmed his government’s commitment to continue supporting Albania and its development. The Ambassador expressed his wishes for further improvement in Kruja Municipality, emphasizing the importance of capacity-building through professional training, comprehensive education and fire drills in schools and other areas in order to encourage the local community to be more active in the fight against fires. On the other hand, Mayor of Kruja Artur BUSHI expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Government of Japan and Ambassador TAKADA for their support, underlining the Grant’s importance to the Municipality and its citizens.
Japan has been supporting Albania with several grants for equipment and vehicles provision. In the field of Fire Protection Services, the Government of Japan has provided similar grants last year to Kamza Municipality and Berat Municipality. This year grant agreements were signed with Bulqize Municipality and Lezha Municipality for the provision of fire trucks and the corresponding equipment.
Since 1998, Japan has been awarding grants to public institutions, local government authorities or NGOs for projects in the fields of health care, disaster prevention, environmental protection etc., through the “Grant Scheme Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project” (GGP). Japan has extended to Albania 44 GGP grants equivalent to 2.8 million euros.
