Veliaj: Largest technology center in Balkans set up in Tirana

TIRANA, Oct. 4 /ATA/The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj attended today the International Conference on Trends in Nanotechnology, while emphasizing that the capital is finally open for such high-level scientific meetings.

“It is a pleasure that you made possible the organization of this conference to Tirana, but what makes me extremely happy is the opening of the capital after the COVID-19 for science as well. I really hope that this will be just the beginning of the series of the activities, as Tirana next year will be the European Capital of Youth,” mayor Veliaj said.

The mayor of Tirana, Veliaj also said that, the largest technology center in the Balkansis being established in the heart of Tirana.

“You already know that, on the boulevard near the Prime Minister’s Office work is underway on the new Pyramid. The Pyramid of Tirana functioned as a mausoleum to come to the aid of dictator Enver Hoxha, after he passed away it was transformed into a museum, then to a disco, and now it will be the largest coding academy for our children. I think that this is a commitment and our political will to develop science,” mayor Veliaj said.

In Albania, some time ago, the Albanian Unit of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology was set up at the Academy of Sciences.

The main objective of this conference, which will last 4 days, is to further increase cooperation between the three countries: Albania, Japan and Spain in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnologies and their applications in important fields, such as life sciences, information and energy technologies. //a.i/
