TIRANA, Sept 27 /ATA/ The Democratic Party (DP) head, Lulzim Basha, said on Monday that the DP will submit as soon as possible the proposal to reduce the value added tax on food basket items from 20% to 6%.
At a media briefing after the meeting of the DP parliamentary group, Basha focused on the situation of all Albanians today.
“97% of Albanians means all Albanians. And only today, INSTAT has released data coming from a body already under the heel of the government that show the reality that every Albanian, every parent touches on the table. And this is extreme poverty, which is being served by the rising prices. It started with the price of bread, but has expanded to other items of food basket, food as a whole, gas, oil, energy, water and so on. Therefore, denouncing the situation is not enough, despite the fact that the culprit is already known. It is the predatory pricing policy of this government and the mentality of a group that is concerned only about its own pockets and of its clients and partners, so that the money goes from the citizens to those pockets. And to put an end to this practice, but above all to relieve the Albanian citizens from this burden, the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party will submit as soon as possible the proposal to reduce the value added tax on items of the food basket from 20 to 6% ,” said Basha./sm/
