Tirana Mosaic, new evidence and facts for history of capital

TIRANA, September 21/ATA/ The excavations in the Mosaic of Tirana are bringing to light more and more new evidence and facts about the history of the capital.

Minister of Culture Elva Margariti inspected the new excavations at the mosaic of Tirana, where there have been new discoveries in the space of the Roman villa with mosaics.

The excavation space has also been expanded, bringing to light all traces of the settlement.

The new discoveries extend the period of time of the residence of this territory until the end of the 1st century. The group of experts who are working on this archaeological site said that the discovered walls belong to the 5th and 6th century AD and are the last phase when this area was inhabited.

This archaeological site is also an opportunity for students to participate in an archaeology event.

“We all know it as the mosaic of Tirana, but it is much more than that. The new excavations are not only more clearly outlining the Roman villa and all its spaces, but pushing it to the end of the first century the time when the residence was a living space”, said Minister Margariti during the inspection.

“With Olsi and Maringlen (Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage Tirana) we were in the territory where the students of the Faculty of History-Philology, UT are digging together with specialists, who are lucky not only to specialize and be provided with certificates, but also to receive part of an important process for the history of the city “, stressed the minister.

“We expect that with the completion of the excavations and the documentation of the process and the facilities, there will emerge impressive results”, said Minister Margariti. /j.p/p.s./
