TIRANA, August 2/ATA/ -“The only serious active forest fire in the country is Karaburuni”, stated today Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi while being in Pashaliman base where he spoke about the fire situation in our country.
“The only active spot in the country is Karaburuni where we have intervened by air, ground and numerous forces,” said Peleshi, who added that about 200 members of the Armed Forces have already been engaged.
Expressing condolences for the loss of lives and damage from the fires in Turkey and Greece, Peleshi said that he considers the situation in our country to be successfully managed, so far.
“We consider it successfully managed so far as first of all we did not have any loss of life, we did not have any injuries, and we did not even have any house damaged. The houses in the area of Ksamil and in a village of Përmet were also under threat of fire. But, now the fires are extinguished. Respectively, 20 members of the Armed Forces have been working to extinguish these two fires that approached the houses due to the winds”, said Peleshi.
He stressed that thanks to the work of the local government with dozens of forces, as volunteers whom he thanked, “We have overcome the difficult situation in two villages of Fier. There have worked about 80 members of the Armed Forces and dozens of others from the local government”.
“In the first hours of the morning, the fire was extinguished in Mamurras, in the administrative unit of Mamurras, Kurbin municipality. I am mentioning only those that are considered as serious spots”, said Peleshi.
“Now, the only serious hearth remains Karaburuni, excluding some hearths that do not pose a risk and problem. Here in Karaburun, we have so far avoided touching Llogara and we hope that there will be no negative developments until the end. It is not only hope, it is also the hard work of more than 200 members of the Armed Forces and dozens of other local government forces. We have about 60 helicopter flights so far with a significant impact. But, the human work is irreplaceable, because the work that the Armed Forces have done throughout Albania and will continue to do until we come out of this extraordinary heat season, is irreplaceable”, Peleshi emphasized.
Of course, he continued, “Under no circumstances and at any cost would we defend the base, but I want to thank you for the extraordinary work that has been done to avoid and put out the fire around here and to keep the Pashaliman base out of danger. ”/p.s./
