Albania signs prisoner transfer agreement with UK

TIRANA, July 26 /ATA/ – The United Kingdom and Albanian Justice Ministers, Chris Philp and Etilda Gjonaj, formally signed the Prisoner Transfer Agreement in London on Monday.

The British Embassy in Tirana said in a release that the new agreement will ensure effective prisoner transfers and includes provisions for Albanian and British criminals to be returned to their respective countries to serve their full sentence.

The UK has a long history of working with Albania on the penitentiary system and the justice system more widely.

The cooperation has included projects looking at alternatives to custodial sentences, the provision of prison vehicles and work to introduce security measures in high security prisons.

We will continue to fully support the Albanian justice system and justice institutions.
