TIRANA, July 6 /ATA/ – The Albanian government and the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline, TAP, signed an agreement on the construction and delivery of the gas exit point along the TAP pipeline in Albania on Tuesday.
In her remarks at the signing ceremony, the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku described the agreement on the Albanian first gas exit point in Fier, and a modern TAP station as a strategic investment paving the way to gas infrastructure in the country’s south.
“Work is also underway on the detailed Fier-Vlora pipeline project, which will connect TAP pipeline with the Vlora thermal power plant to be invested by the giant Exxon Mobile,” Balluku said.
Infrastructure and Energy Minister put emphasis on importance of providing new energy sources and diversification of the power generation in the country in line with the policies and strategies designed to develop this sector.
According to her, TAP pipeline in Albania has set milestone in the Albanian energy sector and is a success story in terms of multilateral relations. The today’s agreement will pave the way to Albania’s gasification, one of the top priorities for Prime Minister Edi Rama’s government to develop the country’s energy sector.
“Diversification of energy sources in the country responds to the expansion of tourism, agriculture, construction and economic development, while gasification is the focus of our work during third term and we are working to bring innovation to this sector through projects, where liquefied gas due to be supplied by the giant Exxon Mobile, can be injected in the TAP pipeline to allow for maximum efficiency of Vlora thermal power plant,” Balluku concluded.
