TIRANA, July 1 /ATA/ Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, stated on Thursday that time has come to change the approach to the Western Balkans.
In her remarks at the panel “Building Trust through Dialogue” that was held in North Macedonia, Xhaçka said that, “our region has undergone a tremendous transformation thanks to the common European dream and the support of the EU. However, as the June 22 meeting of the European Council showed, the EU today does not have a strategic approach to the region, which we hope will change after failing to set a date for the first Intergovernmental Conference for Albania and North Macedonia.”
“But this is not just an issue of EU. We need to work harder to highlight the strategic importance of our region and to adopt a more proactive approach to integration, waiting not only from the EU, but also working at the regional level to build Europe in our region and to create a common space of possibilities, ” the minister said in her remarks.
Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, participated in the first International Conference organized as part of the Prespa Forum for Dialogue, held in Ohrid of North Macedonia.
In attendance of the first day of the Prespa Dialogue Forum were the region’s top diplomats as well as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Palmer.
