Fish export to 11 EU countries, an increase by 3.4 million lekë

TIRANA, June 23 /ATA/ The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported that the exports of fish and seafood have the highest value of sales abroad.

According to statistics, the two groups “Fish and shellfish” and “Food prepared from meat, fish and mollusks” increased in value by 3.407 million lekë at the end of the first quarter of 2021, compared to 2.603 million lekë in the same period of 2020.

The handling of fish exports dominates the main ports of the country (Durrës, Vlora, Lezha and Saranda).

EU countries (Italy and Germany) continue to be the main destinations of Albanian fish exports, while the supply of the domestic markets with fish and seafood continues normally.

In total, the map of fish exports from Albania has expanded in recent years to 11 different countries, marking an increase in exports in volume and value.

The government facilitation policies in support of fisheries have given new impetus to this sector.

For 7 years, fishermen have been receiving oil without tax, nets and other fishing materials are exempt from VAT.

The government together with the EU recently funded a € 1.5 million grant to subsidize 50% of the cost of renovating all fishing vessel equipment.

Meanwhile, the fish processing industry has also developed. The number of fish processing enterprises in Albania has doubled since 2013. From 16 enterprises operating in this sector in 2013, today their number has reached 35.

In addition to the increase in the number of active enterprises, the number of employees has also increased. The investments made by these enterprises are estimated at 60 million euros, while over 5 thousand people are employed./j.p/p.s./
