TIRANA, June 21 /ATA/ – Maritime transport has shown signs of significant recovery as the COVID-19 restrictions have been further relaxed in May. The number of maritime transport passengers to and from Albania’s largest port of Durres has significantly increased over the past month.
Operative data from the Durres Port Authority show that a total of 30.857 passengers have travelled between Durres and the Italian ports of Bari and Ancona in May 2021, six times higher than during same period of the previous year.
Since the beginning of the year, ferry transport has shown very positive indicators in terms of processing volumes through the gradual increase in the number of voyages and number of passengers recently as compared to data from 2020, being the worst-affected sector of the maritime industry due to the pandemic restrictions.
A total of 14.933 travellers have entered Albania through port of Durres in May, while over 15.924 other people have departed from largest port for the ports in the neighbouring Italy.
