TIRANA, June 16/ATA/ The issuance of a new denomination of the banknote worth 10 thousand ALL, for the first time in Albania, is a requirement for economic development and the market need for a higher denomination, the Governor of the Bank of Albania-BoA, Gent Sejko said today in a televised interview.
In his remarks, Sejko pointed out that, the new denomination comes out a decade and a half after the launch of the 5 thousand lek banknote and serves the citizens with the highest salaries, the price structure that have changed, but also the banking system related to conveniences this denomination will bring in the circulation of money.”
The BoA’s objectives are to reduce the use of cash in the economy and increase electronic payments, but this does not mean that we do not improve banknotes in circulation. The new banknotes have some additional security features. At the beginning of next year, there will be two new denominations in circulation, 500 lekë and 2000 lekë,” BoA governor Sejko said. //a.i/
