WRA: 21,256 new water connections during 2020

TIRANA, May 17/ATA/ The Commission on the Production Activities, Trade and Environment held on Monday a hearing session with the chairman of the Albanian Regulatory Authority of the Water Supply (WRA), Ndriçim Shani on the annual activity report of this institution during 2020.

During the presentation of the report, WRA chairman, Shani said that, the “Level of Measurement” has improved by 2.1%, compared to 2019 reaching about 80% of the entire sector.

“During this year, have been installed about 35 thousand water meters. There are still 186,717 non-metered customers reported in the sector, of which 7,448 belong to the non-household category. However, attention should be strengthened to equipping 100% of customers with meters, as the flat rate electricity bill leaves room for water misuse by consumers for irrigation purposes, especially the private houses and rural area,” Shani said.

“During 2020, the number of new water connections reached about 21,256, while the sewerage connections reached about 22,869, on the other hand the number of staff has increased by 42 employees,” he said.

Shani stressed that, “investments in the sewerage network have led to an increase in the number of residents who have entered the scheme of this service reaching about 35 thousand.” //a.i/
