TIRANA, April 28 /ATA/ Former Secretary General of the Democratic Party Arben Ristani said on Wednesday that the Democratic Party needs a reset and that the Democratic Party head, Lulzim Basha, should reflect as soon as possible.
In a televised interview, Ristani said that “the whole situation from the law on territorial division which Basha boycotted caused a disproportion of the parties in relation to the elections.”
“It is not by chance that we have these results. Such a thing has happened even after the defeat in 2017 elections. I personally have asked for a reflection that triggered the change of the Electoral Code,” he said.
Ristani said that he did not expect the DP to win these elections.
“After losing several elections in a row, it makes no sense to hold on to the party leadership. The DP needs a rest, the DP needs to get back on its feet to win the elections because it has the potentials. It continues to be a strong and big party, the problem lies with the strategy, with internal democracy,” – said Ristani.
“I believe that the truth is what happens in practice and what happens in practice is defeat. The defeat in 2015 local elections, in 2017 general elections, are personal decisions not of the party structure except for the decision to relinquish the mandates. I think the time is ripe to clear the way,” he said.
