Fish and seafood exports increase in March

TIRANA, April 18 /ATA/ – Albania seafood exports were valued at 3.407 million lek in March 2021 from 2,603 million lek during the same period of 2020.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Milva Ekonomi posted Sunday official figure on growth of fish and seafood export from the country’s main ports, Durres, Vlora, Lezhe and Saranda.

Germany and Italy remain the main destination of Albania fish exports, while the sector is meeting the domestic market needs for fish and seafood products.

The map of Albania seafood exports has kept expanding to 11 various countries, recording significant growth both in volumes and value in recent years.

The accommodative policies and the government support have provided a fresh impetus to the sector.

Fishermen are eligible to tax-free fuel, while nets and other needed material and equipment are excluded from VAT in the past seven years.

Albanian government and the European Union recently funded a 1.5m-euro grant to subsidize 50% of the cost of renovating all fishing vessel equipment.

The fish processing industry has also experienced growth in recent years. Number of fish processing enterprises in Albania has doubled to 33 from 16 enterprises operating in this sector in 2013.
