“WB ranks Albania as country with highest decrease of unemployment in region”/278 thousand new employments

TIRANA, April 1/ATA/- “The World Bank has declared that Albania is the first country in the region for employment”, stated today Prime Minister Edi Rama while emphasizing that 278 thousand people have been employed.

Regarding the promise of 300 thousand jobs, Rama said that there is an official register that cannot be manipulated because it is related to social security and the contributions of every person who is at work.

“Look at how many people were at work in 2013, look at how many people were at work in 2019, even though today we have recovered all the jobs lost during the pandemic and say, have they been opened or not. There are not 300 thousand fixed jobs, but there are 278 thousand”, he stressed.

Rama added that the World Bank report says that in the region, Albania is the first country for employment, including Serbia and North Macedonia, which have always been considered as models.

“The problem is that today the challenge is not just in the jobs, because today we are talking about a large Albanian company that has vacancies and is looking for workers. Today, our problem is the increase of the salary for work, so to have not only more jobs, but to have better paid jobs. In order to have better paid jobs we have to go through some steps and some new directions to empower some new sectors that pay better, this is the challenge”, he said.

He added that it is quoted in black and white in the WB report that Albania has registered the largest decrease in unemployment in the region.

“If we talk about informal jobs, there are more than 300 thousand, but I do not call them. I am talking about jobs for employed Albanians who pay social insurance, pay health insurance and pay contributions, I am talking about these “, said Rama. /j.p/p.s./
