Opposition leader defying COVID-19 restriction, contributing to mass infection

TIRANA, March 28 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama blamed the opposition main Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha on Sunday for defying the COVID-19 restrictions by holding electoral rallies and helping to spread the virus across the country.

Addressing a meeting with young people in Kombinat, Tirana municipality, the government head said that the country faces two major challenges, namely the post-earthquake reconstruction and the fight against the novel coronavirus.

“We have launched mass immunisation, whereas Luli (DP leader) has launched mass infection, because he lacks the sense of responsibility and he doesn’t care about people. It is just like if we were to gather people here and create a COVID pro centre. This is shameful and it speaks volume about the sense of respect for the people and if you don’t respect the right to protection of the lives of your most loyal supporters, then you are not a trustworthy person for nobody else,” Rama said.

Speaking about the post-earthquake reconstruction programme, the government head said that nobody in the opposition would be able to build homes for the quake-affected people.

“Here in Kombinat you know Monika (chairwoman of the Socialist Movement for Integration) who actually knows how to build homes for herself and not for the people. DP and its leader can’t do it either. This has been always the case and it won’t change as long as they fail to alter the relation with their own selves and the history,” Rama said.

Rama also commented on the opposition’s recent statement that called the Socialist Party’s government an accident.

“If people were not to act in 2013, Albania would have plunged into the situation it experienced in 1997,” Rama stated.
