TIRANA, Feb 22 /ATA/ – By I. Vata/ PM Edi Rama stated from Mother Teresa airport while waiting for the delivery of 8190 doses of Pfizer vaccine as part of the contract with this company, that “ the government is working to conclude a deal with a friendly country on delivery of another 360 thousand vaccines.”
Rama said, “today we receive another batch of Pfizer vaccine and as we said within March the entire batch of 41 thousand and several hundred doses will be delivered, while we continue working day to day to enter into an agreement with a friendly country on another 360 thousand doses of AstraZeneca vaccine and we are also in intensive communication with two other countries to increase the supply of vaccines and ensure that the vaccination continues apace towards hitting the target of vaccinating the entire population within a span of 14 months. ”
Rama added that, “the target is very ambitious under the current circumstances because every day the fight to
ensure vaccine doses is very aggressive from the four corners of the globe and the supply relative to demand remains very small. However we will not give up, on the contrary I am confident that sooner or later we will have good news, but so far we continue the vaccination with Pfizer, which has extended to all healthcare professionals countrywide. We are about to finish the vaccination of the Care Home residents and staff and have already started the vaccination of the priority group plus 80 years of age. ”
“You have to bear in mind that today about 70% of vaccine manufacturing is in the hands of 10 countries, all other countries that have had access to possible doses have participated or have shared 30% of the total volume, while today the figure of 140 countries, including the countries of the region that have no dose available, remains unchanged. I say this to put into context all this effort being made to procure the vaccine supplies because the doses we have received and are receiving care of vital importance for all medical workers and those vaccinated so far,” he said.
