Albanian orthodox believers celebrate Epiphany today

TIRANA, January 6 /ATA/ All Orthodox believers across the country celebrate today the Epiphany.

This great holiday is celebrated every year, gathering hundreds and thousands of Christian believers.

But, this year gatherings are banned due to the pandemic. Epiphany is celebrated by throwing the cross into the water.

According to the Bible, the day of the Epiphany coincides with the prophecy of the 3 people who saw in the sky of Bethlehem in Jerusalem the star, which foretold the birth of Jesus Christ.

Like in many countries of the world, in Albania this ritual has been celebrated for years in cities such as Berat, Gjirokastra, Durrës, Fier, Lushnja and Korça.

Young people are the ones who become part of this rite, as every year, even challenging the low temperatures of January, they are submerge into the cold water to catch the cross./p.s./
