TIRANA, Jan 3 /ATA/ – Mayor of the north-central Albania municipality of Kruja Artur Bushi said in an interview with the Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA) on Saturday that central and local government authorities primarily focused on in post-disaster recovery and reconstruction efforts in 2020.
Mayor Bushi said that a total of 1855 apartments and single-family homes will be built in Kruja municipality for the families affected by the devastating earthquake that hit the country on November 26, 2019.
“A total of 158 private dwellings are being rebuilt in the town of Thumane only, along with 14 residential buildings to provide housing for some 278 families in the new residential neighbourhood. In the meantime, 77 private homes and 45 apartments are currently being built for the quake-affected families in the village of Bubq,” Busha said.
Kruja Mayor also said that “work is set to kick off soon for construction of 15 residential buildings to provide housing for 120 families. A total of 228 families will be accommodated in the new residential complex in Fushe-Kruje.
“As many as 5350 families were severely affected by the powerful tremor and the post-earthquake efforts included a long and exhausting damage assessment process, the application process from the affected families, the preparations for the local development plans, the expropriation procedures, demolition of the damaged buildings, the site preparation work and construction of the new dwellings,” Bushi noted.
Kruja Mayor also said that high priority was placed on construction of new educational facilities in the affected areas, and said that work to construct six more new schools is slated to begin this year.
Bushi said that the post-earthquake reconstruction program is one of the most ambitious projects launched by the government of Albania.
“The government compensation grant has been already disbursed and withdrawn by as many as 2500 families to cover the rebuilding cost for their houses with DS1 and DS3 damage level. In the meantime, site preparation work and construction of the underground infrastructure for new residential neighbourhoods has completed in Thumane and Fushe Kruje, while work is underway to construct the singe-family homes,” he added.
