TIRANA, Dec 28 /ATA/ Former Democratic Party MP, Jorida Tabaku, stated on Monday that “the government failed to respond in time to the crisis caused by the earthquake, as well as to provide the adequate socio- economic assistance to business and citizens throughout the pandemic period.”
She said that “the consequence of this is a decline of the country’s GDP by EUR 1 billion, a big economic crisis and rising unemployment.”
“INSTAT reports that economic decline in the third quarter is EUR 130 million , while Gross Domestic Product, ie what our entire economy produces, has been contracted by 3.3%. Projections show that the economy will contract for this year to 7.5% of GDP,” she said.
Tabaku added that the 2021 budget is not designed to help citizens. “Poverty will increase, according to World Bank, going to the levels of 2005, so Albanians will go back to their income 15 years ago. At this time of crisis with EUR 1 billion in financial losses, the Albanian government will disburse EUR 120 million euros to PPPs, increasing by 40% compared to this year,” she said.
