MEPs: Albania deserves to move forward on its path to EU

TIRANA, Dec. 10/ATA/- MEP Isabel Santos, EP rapporteur on Albania stated on Thursday that Albania has worked hard to meet the conditions set by the EC.

During the presentation of draft report at the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET), Santos said that, “we have definitely focused on reforms. In fact, there are no significant differences compared to other reports, and our views have not changed from what we have said before. In my draft report, I also followed the views of the EC. The requirements made by the EC must be met.”

Santos also demanded that “anti-corruption and organized crime reforms continue. Justice Reform must be completed.”

“Despite the pandemic situation, Albania has worked hard to meet the conditions and move forward. An agreement was reached on June 5 that must be preserved, for the good of the country, in order to have as many benefits for the Albanian people, for Albania itself. The desire of the Albanian people to become part of the EU is great and we must not forget this,” she said.

While the Member of European Parliament, member of Committee of Foreign Affairs and Human Rights, David Lega said that, “Albania deserves to move forward on its path towards the EU. The Albanian people deserve steady progress. I very much hope to cooperate with EP rapporteur on Albania, Santos to continue our work.”//a.i/
