TIRANA, Nov 5 /ATA/ The Acting President, Vjosa Osmani, in her first speech addressed to the citizens, after the resignation of Hashim Thaçi, has appealed for strong unity in the face of tough challenges for the country.
Parliament Speaker Osmani said that Kosovo is going through hard times so the citizens of Kosovo must show unity and loyalty to our joint project, the Republic of Kosovo.
“Dear citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, our country is going through hard times, the citizens of Kosovo must show unity and loyalty to our joint project, our Republic. Our country has coped with multiple challenges throughout its history, including the recent war, therefore we must exercise with maturity the institutional responsibilities and strengthen the stability of our state. Because the state becomes stronger whenever it faces challenges and overcomes them with dignity. We are cognizant that the actions of the Specialist Chambers derive from the state obligations that Kosovo has accepted. The following processes will not undermine our national project for freedom, which is built on the sacrifice of whole generations and the blood shed by the soldiers of the Kosovo Liberation Army, ” Osmani stated.
She expressed highest appreciation for all those who have shown determination and confidence in the institutions and have responded to the invitation of the Specialist Chambers, demonstrating unwavering faith in justice. She said that the the battle for state building is the most difficult political battle.
“The battle for state-building is the most difficult political battle. Therefore, wisdom and prudence, the prominent features of our tradition are needed at this moment. This time of adversity requires strong leadership and a unified state response. Today, when our country is coping with the pandemic, all we need solidarity and full understanding with each other. As Acting President, I vow to exercise my duty by promoting precisely these values. During this journey, as before, I will be committed every day for Kosovo to become a state where the dreams of our citizens are realized, where equal opportunities are created for all of us in all walks of life. I will make sure that the citizens and I speak with one voice that will echo louder than ever. Therefore, I want to ask you, as a citizen of this country committed to democratic values, to stand firmly by each other to prove that we understand and share these values with one another,” Osmani said in her speech.
She concluded saying that as acting president she will guarantee the democratic functioning of the institutions, will safeguard the institutional cohesion, stability and unity of the country.
