TIRANA, October 16/ATA/ The Municipality of Elbasan has officially reacted to accusations regarding the operation of the Urban Waste Processing Plant.
“Based on some scandalous political and media speculations, regarding the operation of the Urban Waste Processing Plant in the city of Elbasan, the municipality of Elbasan clarifies the public opinion that since February 2016 this plant started operating in Elbasan while incineration began in 2017 and since then it functions normally every day. Since then, the municipality of Elbasan deposits urban waste in this incinerator free of charge, based on the agreement signed between the Ministry of Environment and Albtek Energy”, it is said in the reaction of the municipality of Elbasan.
“Since this date, the plant has operated normally and energy has been produced from the incineration of waste. The energy produced is used for the needs of this plant itself while the rest if put into the grid. According to the contract, the company Albtek Energy manages the urban waste processing plant until 16.12.2021, then this incinerator will be taken over by the municipality of Elbasan. So, we are more than a year ahead of receiving the facility. In June 2021, 6 months before the date the Municipality of Elbasan will start the procedures for receiving it “, it is read in the reaction of the Municipality.
In the reaction of the municipality of Elbasan it is stated that, “the Urban Waste Processing Plant has a daily waste treatment capacity of 120 tons. Currently, the municipality of Elbasan deposits no more than 80 tons per day. For this reason, but also to solve the problem of pollution in the region, other municipalities have signed a contract and are currently depositing their waste in this incinerator.”
“The municipality of Cërrik, the municipality of Belsh and the municipality of Librazhd are already depositing their waste in the incinerator of Elbasan.
