As of 2014, minimum wage has increased over 31%

TIRANA, Oct 9 /ATA/ The govt. initiative to increase the minimum wage at national scale from ALL 26 thousand it is currently to ALL 30 thousand as of January 1 next year is expected to have a positive impact.

In terms of social policies, poverty reduction and increase of household consumption and living standards, especially for the category that relies on minimum wage in Albania, this measure is expected to boost consumption and improve the well-being of the population.

This decision is expected to benefit a large number of employees in the country, mainly in the toll manufacturing sector, but also in that of services and other categories.

Raising the minimum wage is also considered a public tool for governments to intervene in the labor market in order to protect the most vulnerable groups, usually unskilled workers in order to provide a minimum standard of living.

From 2014 through to the end of 2019, the minimum wage has increased by over 31%. Meanwhile during the period 2006-2013 the minimum wage increased by 18%.
