TIRANA, October 8 /ATA/ The MP of the Socialist Party Mirela Kumbaro appreciated today the progress report of the European Union for Albania as a positive step.
In a television interview, Kumbaro said that, “Albania is ready to meet all the points that the progress report carries.”
Regarding the adoption of amendments to the Electoral Code, Kumbaro said that, “We were very ready to meet all the OSCE-ODIHR proposals, but many of them were abandoned by the opposition. We consider necessary to guarantee the level of representation of the entire electorate and participation of non-parliamentary opposition parties was a powerful step forward made by this majority”.
According to her, it is important not to leave Albania without an Electoral Code.
Speaking about the open lists of candidates, Kumbaro said that, “open list means, in my vision, to give the opportunity to a candidate who is on the list to run and to be as unifying as possible of the electorate in the area where he running “.
“This is an achievement for which we do not want steps back and the proposed mechanism that respects gender quotas and guarantees open lists, is what was proposed and voted.
