TIRANA, Oct 7 /ATA/ Parliament Speaker, Gramoz Ruçi, expressed on Wednesday his gratitude that the decision of the European Council for the opening of accession negotiations with Albania was taken during the mandate of the EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi. Inviting him to the floor to deliver the speech, Ruçi underlined that he addresses the Assembly one day after rolling out the EU enlargement package for 2020, as well as the economic investment plan for the Western Balkans.
“You praised the reforms of Albania and appealed for their continuation,” parliament speaker said.
The Commissioner visits the Albanian Parliament only two days after the passage of amendments to the Electoral Code. According to Ruçi, “we approached as much as possible the drafts of the parliamentary and extra-parliamentary opposition and, most importantly, we came up to the expectations of Albanian citizens for more decision-making in the voting of their representatives for the legislative.”
“We are fully committed to this process, delivering step by step on all EU recommendations. The Albanian Parliament has set itself the objective to establish Constitutional Court within this year.
“I want to assure you that for other recommendations and priorities that the EU has set and you underlined in the October 6 presentation, we are working with the same pace and the same responsibility,” Ruçi said.
