TIRANA, September 28 /ATA/The Albanian Power Corporation is working to guarantee energy supply on the threshold of winter season.
It has planned investments and interventions in the hydropower stations of the Drini cascade in context of measures for the winter season.
Thus, in the “Koman” Hydropower Plant, the overhaul of the aggregate no. II.
“The maintenance staff at the “Koman” hydropower plant successfully completed the installation of the throttle blade tire to eliminate water leaks in unit no. II”, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy said.
“Koman” is the second and most powerful hydropower plant of the Drin River cascade. In terms of installed capacity, position and volume of the reservoir, this hydropower plant plays a key role in the production and operation of the entire cascade. This hydropower plant has the largest energy production capacity in our country.
The “Koman” hydropower plant consists of the dam and reservoir. The dam is 133 m high and 290 m long. “Koman” Dam is one of the 10 highest dams of this type in Europe.
The dam has a total volume of 5 million m3. The dam has created a not very large reservoir, of 500 million m3 of water, while its useful volume is 90 million m3 of water (quota; 169-176).
Work on its construction began in 1980. In 1985, the first turbine began work. The hydropower plant was put into operation at full capacity in 1988./a.gjonaj//a.a/p.s./
