Changes to Electoral Code/ US Ambassador Kim: Opposition to remain committed

TIRANA, September 28/ATA/- US Ambassador to Albania, Yuri Kim stated on Monday during a visit in Himara that, it is extremely important that the opposition continues to remain committed to submitting proposals for changes to the Electoral Code.

“It is extremely important that the opposition continues to remain engaged and also all parties to put forward the proposals that can be real and also real counter-proposals. Today the opposition has made a proposal. And I am also pleased that the Socialist Party will consider this counter-proposal and have a real debate to include it. This standard of transparency and inclusiveness is exactly what we should expect from a country that is a member of NATO, that is a candidate country for the EU and also a country that leads the OSCE Chairmanship. They are high standards, but you deserve them,” Kim said.

“The June 5 agreement was reached in a comprehensive and transparent manner. And every party which signed that letter must keep its word, as a matter of honor. My signature is not on that letter. Those who signed that letter are the persons responsible for implementation of June 5th agreement. Thus, my expectation is that June 5th agreement will be honored. If the parties agree on other measures beyond 5 June agreement we will provide our full support. But let’s see what happens,” the US Ambassador Kim added. //a.i/
