COVID-19/ Alimehmeti: Many countries experiencing second wave, fatality rate falling

TIRANA, Sept 25 /ATA/ – Epidemiologist Ilir Alimehmeti said Friday that many countries around the world are experiencing the coronavirus second wave, but the COVID-related death rate is falling.

Alimehmeti told a media interview that the death rate was higher in spring than in September and this is an easily verifiable fact. According to him, a spike in fresh coronavirus cases has not been translated into a higher number of fatalities.

“We expect many weekly or fortnight trends. If you still remember, the number of fatalities in August, unfortunately, was significantly much higher than the deaths recorded in September,” he said.

The epidemiologist noted that many countries are already experiencing a second wave of the coronavirus, but this is the case of big countries where figures can be easily noticed, like France, Italy, Spain, England, United States etc. Despite the surge in fresh cases and it is good that we in Albania are focusing on the new cases. The new cases are actually increasing. The number of people who have contracted the virus in Spain, for example, is much higher, while the fatality rate is almost zero,” Alimehmeti said.
