June 5 agreement has not been violated; constitutional changes need to be reflected on Electoral Code

TIRANA, Sept 24 /ATA/ – The Minister of State for Relations with Parliament Elisa Spiropali said in a televised interview on Thursday evening that the ruling majority is well within any deadline to reflect the constitutional changes to the  Electoral Code.

“We face the fact that constitutional changes need to be reflected on the Electoral Code. The relevant Commission has been set up and is now working on the proposed drafts,” she said.

“We have been more than open to receive proposals from the parliamentary opposition that, for the sake of truth, has forwarded a draft through lawmaker Rudina Hajdari and we have called on extra-parliamentary to present their non-existing drafts. So, we are well within any legal deadlines to adopt the constitutional changes on the Electoral Code,” Spiropali said.

“What is actually happening is that the extra-parliamentary opposition is denying the reality. The opposition refuses to realize that the constitutional changes have been already passed by the Assembly of Albania by an overwhelming majority,” Spiropali said.

“We have been ready to listen to them, although I do personally think that the Political Council has accomplished its mission. I don’t trust in political council or such extra-legal roundtables that intend to replace constitutional institutions,” she said.

“The June 5 agreement has not been violated. The law stipulates for constitutional changes to be reflected on the Electoral Code. The Constitution was amended on July 30. In my view, the Political Council has accomplished its mission. It was our desire and readiness to reach out and cooperate with the extra-parliamentary opposition,” Spiropali noted.
