TIRANA, Sept 18 /ATA/ – The United States Ambassador to Albania Yuri Kim called on the President of the Republic Ilir Meta and the Speaker of the Assembly Gramoz Ruçi to urgently work with the relevant bodies to establish a functional Constitutional Court within 2020.
The US Ambassador agreed on the Venice Commission that the two sides should work together with the relevant bodies.
“Thank you President Ilir Meta and Speaker Gramoz Ruçi for making clear that Albania must have a functioning Constitutional Court now. We agree. Considering the Venice Commission opinion, these two leaders should work with relevant bodies urgently to make this happen before the end of 2020,” Kim stated.
Establishment of a Constitutional Court is one of the key conditions being insistently demanded by the international partners and is one of the conditions the country should meet before the first intergovernmental conference on the launch of the accession negotiations with the EU is held.
