“In-Motion”program to support small businesses in earthquake recovery

TIRANA, September 18/ATA/- In addition to the Reconstruction Program, after the November 26 earthquake, the relevant institutions are working to support the recovery of small businesses affected by natural disaster.

Established by two brothers 13 years ago, “Byrektore Hasi” provides the sole income for a family of 13 members. The shop has just enough space to prepare its famous pies and serve them in some tables inside, but it’s the big tree rooted inside the shop that makes it so attractive.

The brothers live far from their shop and need to take at least two different transport vehicles daily to get there. Nonetheless, the way their shop is organized and, most importantly, the quality of their product, has granted their shop potential for improvement.

Through UNDP’s ‘In Motion’ Pilot Programme, they re-designed their commercial image and renewed some of the key equipment damaged due to the November 26 earthquake that hit Central Albania.

The ‘In Motion’ methodology aims to stabilize livelihoods and improve the socio-economic conditions of the micro-enterprises most-affected by the earthquake and has been successfully tested in other countries previously affected by natural disasters. //a.i/
