TIRANA, August 19 /ATA/ Minister of Education, Sports and Youth Besa Shahini said that in the new school year, the students in the grades 1-7 and all students qualified in special categories up to grade 12 will receive free textbooks.
Minister Shahini highlighted one of the good works realized during 2020 related to the expansion of the support scheme for the distribution of free textbooks for students of the school year 2020-2021.
Despite the financial pressure from last year’s earthquake and the COVID-19 pandemic, Minister Shahini emphasized that, “This year we have expanded the free textbook support scheme, with direct beneficiaries students in grades 1-7 and all students in special categories up to 12th grade”.
This support scheme from the state budget of ALL 800 million directly helps over 250 thousand beneficiary students across the country, reducing the financial cost of Albanian families and also improving the access of students to education, especially Roma and Egyptian students, who have a higher risk of dropping out of high school.
The approval in the Council of Ministers of the Ministry of Education’s proposal to cover with free textbooks all students coming from fragile socio-economic situations up to the 12th grade was on June 17 this year. z.tosku // a.a /p.s./
