Philip Reeker: Electoral reform, important step on right direction

TIRANA, July 23 /ATA/ – Ambassador Philip Reeker, the Assistant Secretary at United States Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, stated Thursday that the United States supports the electoral reform in Albania.

The Voice of America reported that Reeker issued the statement during a teleconference with reporters in Brussels.

“We welcome the agreement as an important step on the right direction. We are happy that Ambassador (Yuri) Kim was able to help Albanians move on the right direction. Albania is a NATO ally and a EU candidate country and has come a long way over the years. You know I have been involved in that part of the world for a long time. We want to see positive developments in Albania and it is important that we are seeing the electoral reform. It is important that all parties of the political spectrum participate in institutions. This is democracy and we will continue to engage, monitor and encourage all parties,” Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs said.
