Constitutional changes do not affect electoral system, but ensure opening of lists, says Manja

TIRANA, July 23/ATA/- Head of the Parliamentary Law Committee Ulsi Manja stated today that what constitutes a standard in the Electoral Code approved today in the Parliament is the transparency after the elections, i.e. the opening of the election materials.

Manja called on the non-Parliamentary opposition to take its seat in the Political Council to discuss the constitutional changes, as according to him, they do not affect the electoral system, but ensure the opening of the lists.

“There are some changes in the existing Electoral Code. The changes that were voted today by a majority of votes are related to the good administration of the electoral process, the transparency of the election campaign and the election administration. They carry a reformulation of the Central Election Commission at 3 levels and new rules for financing the election campaign. The Electoral Code that we voted for today has provided for the financing of the election campaign of political parties from the state budget, while donations are limited to a considerable extent. What is standard in the Electoral Code is the transparency after the elections, the opening of election materials. “This is a standard for which we have protested and even gone on hunger strike,” Manja declared in a media interview.

Beyond political trenches, Manja said, constitutional changes do not affect the electoral system, but the opening of lists.

“The opposition must tell the Albanians if it is for giving them the opportunity to choose. The rest then is just political rhetoric. The agreement on constitutional changes takes place in the Parliament, it is approved there. “If the opposition sits in the Political Council to discuss the constitutional changes, it will understand that we are not dealing with a change in the June 5 agreement, but they are just additional things”, said Manja./a.gjonaj/j.p/p.s./
