TIRANA, July 23 /ATA/ – Socialist Party lawmaker Klotilda Ferhati said Thursday that an open lists system engages citizens in the process of electing the candidate MPs and not only their preferred political parties.
In a televised interview, Ferhati put emphasis on the importance of the political cooperation and a broad consensus regarding the amendments to the country’s Constitution.
However, she noted, we are the only country in the world where the governing majority has to handle a political situation with two oppositions, a parliamentary opposition and an extra-parliamentary one.
According to her, the election processes are important and inclusion and political dialogue are fundamental.
“We have been wasting a lot of time. Citizens want their vote to be free and secret and be translated into their will,” she said.
According to her, a system with at least two thirds of open candidate lists is proposed to ensure competitiveness and maintain gender equality quota.
