TIRANA, July 23 /ATA/ – Lawmaker Damian Gjiknuri, the Socialist Party’s representative in the Political Council, a working group tasked with developing the Electoral Reform in Albania, hailed the extra-parliamentary opposition’s readiness to contribute towards inclusion of constitutional changes on an open lists system in the Electoral Reform.
In an e-mail forwarded to two representatives of the extra-parliamentary opposition, namely Oerd Bylykbashi and Petrit Vasili, Socialist lawmaker voiced readiness of the governing majority to sit in the table of talks once the opposition sends in advance its proposals on this issue.
“I understand your politically-motivated need to send working paper in the form of political statements for propaganda purposes. I have misinformed nobody and instead, as always, I have just revealed the truth about the today’s meeting, which are closely monitored by our international partners,” Gjiknuri clarified.
Gjiknuri noted that at the Council’s meeting two days ago, Prime Minister Edi Rama invited the extra-parliamentary opposition to provide its contribution with the view of adapting the electoral law with the parliamentary opposition’s initiative to open the candidate lists, an initiative already adopted by the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Issues, Public Administration and Human Rights.
