Electoral Reform / Murrizi: Parliamentary opposition insists on constitutional changes, open-lists system

TIRANA, July 20 /ATA/ –By  I. Vata/ – Chairman of the Democratic parliamentary group Muslim Murrizi said Monday that parliamentary opposition lawmakers will insist on the constitutional changes and the open-lists electoral system and warned that they won’t vote the June 5 agreement unless changes to constitution are not adopted.

“We are demanding the constitutional changes and the open-lists system and once the lists are open we will review the Electoral Code to make sure that no party militants and thieves alter the will of the Albanian voters,” Murrizi told reporters.

Lawmakers Murrizi and Rudina Hajdari represent the parliamentary opposition in the Political Council.

MP Murrizi said he was attending the meeting as representative of the 28 lawmakers, who have signed the petition for changes to the Constitution.

“I came here to be a sort of a eyewitness and I found out that they are concerned about the June 5 agreement. They can keep doing so but the parliamentary opposition will not cast a single vote to back their deals,” Murrizi said.
