TIRANA, Nov. 4 /ATA/ – The OSCE Presence in Albania has held a workshop on combating corruption and money laundering, bringing together representatives of Albanian institutions and experts from Croatia and Greece.
Opening the event, OSCE Ambassador Michel Tarran stressed the importance of cooperation among institutions in tackling financial crime.
“No institution can fight corruption and money laundering on its own,” Tarran said, reaffirming the OSCE Presence’s commitment to bringing institutions together, providing expertise and technical assistance, and promoting the exchange of international experience.
During the seminar, Ana Trstenjak, Deputy Director of Croatia’s Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime, and Michail Throuvalas, a major in the Greek Police’s Organised Crime Directorate, shared their countries’ experience in investigating specific cases and the lessons learned.
Discussions focused on the need for cooperation at every stage of efforts to combat corruption and financial crime, from identifying suspicious transactions to tracing and confiscating assets obtained through illegal activities.
The seminar aimed to facilitate the exchange of expertise, strengthen cooperation among Albanian institutions and familiarise participants with international best practices, with a view to improving efforts to combat financial crime and protect public funds.
