TIRANA, July 15/ATA/- The President of the Republic, Ilir Meta stated Wednesday that, the June 5 agreement must be implemented accurately and without delay, paving the way for the implementation of 15 conditions for the opening of membership negotiations during the German Presidency of the European Union Council.
The President of the Republic, Ilir Meta received today in a meeting the Chairman of the Democratic Party Lulzim Basha.
President Meta praised the opposition’s stance on returning to institutions and contributing to the country’s stability and European future.
The Head of State also praised the responsible behavior of the opposition during the pandemic situation and the constructive contribution made during the meetings of the National Security Council to handle the situation in the country.
The President of the Republic Meta urged the DP Chairman, Basha to continue to adhere to the June 5 agreement, despite desperate efforts to violate the Constitution, warning that anyone working against the country’s European future will bear individual and direct responsibility.
During the meeting, the DP Chairman Basha expressed concerns on behalf of the united opposition over the pandemic situation, the economic crisis in the country and the June 5 agreement.
“In respect of the investment of our allies, we decided not to lay down conditions for the June 5 agreement, not for ourselves but for the Albanian citizens, following the constant demand of the opposition, and we reached an agreement that was welcomed by the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borell and EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi,” Basha said. //a.i/
