Destination for tourists/ Bashtov castle, monument steeped in history

TIRANA, June 17 /ATA/ Bashtova castle, a monument of culture built in the 15th century, is an enticing destination for visitors thanks to its historic values and the surrounding natural beauties.

Located near the village of Villa-Bashtova at a distance of 3-4 km, north of the mouth of River Shkumbin, from the walls of the castle you can observe the coast as in the palm of your hand from the Bay of Durres to Divjaka and Karavasta.

Minister of Tourism and Environment, Blendi Klosi, has published a video showing the amazing views of this castle which, unlike all other castles, perches on the field.

“The only castle in the Balkans that perches on the field. Steeped in natural beauties and historical values, it is worth a visit, ” Minister Klosi says.
Bashtova Castle is located in the administrative unit of Gosa, part of the municipality of Rrogozhina under the new administrative division. Here the the region of Tirana borders with that of Fier.
For the first time, the castle is mentioned in a maritime chart dated 1521.

The castle was built in the 15th century and served the Venetians for trade. The Bashtova area is mentioned as a river port in Shkumbin as well as a grain export hub. The castle has a quadrangular shape with dimensions of 60 × 90 meters. Its western part was rebuilt in the 18th century. Its walls are 9 meters high.

What makes Bashtova unique compared to other castles that are accessible in Albania is the fact that it is the only castle built on a field rather than on top of the hills or mountains.
