Parliamentary opposition: Determined to change electoral system

TIRANA, June 10 /ATA/- Opposition Parliamentary groups led by Chairman of the Democratic Parliamentary Group, Myslim Murrizi, Nimet Musai, Chairman of the Independent Parliamentary Group and Edmond Stojku, Chairman of the Parliamentary Group “Democracy and Justice” held a meeting today with Parliament Speaker Gramoz Ruçi.

Afterwards, they stated that they expect a meeting with Prime Minister Edi Rama to discuss on their demands for electoral reform.

In a statement to the media, Murrizi said that, “During a meeting with Ruçi we reached full agreement that no other institution outside the constitutional institutions, that is the parliament, can replace the legitimate and sovereign institution of Albanians, the Albanian Parliament.”

“Discussions on reform will only take place in the Electoral Reform Commission. After the meeting with Ruçi, we requested a meeting with Prime Minister Rama and in respect of implementation of our request, the three chairmen of the Parliamentary groups and the three chairmen of the opposition parliamentary committees, abandoned the Conference of Chairmen maintaining the stance that no one inside or outside the institutions cannot make fun of our vote and the mandate of the MP we have received,” he said.

“We have a list of 39 signed lawmakers who agree on the change of the electoral system and for this reason we request a meeting with PM Rama. We decided that the Parliamentary opposition should not continue with the meetings of the Parliamentary commissions, because if we do not meet all the actors in this process, we will not be able to give our product. We have come to the Parliament for the Albanian people and to change this 30-year policy “, said Stojku./a.g/p.s./
