TIRANA, June 9/ATA/ The President of the Republic, Ilir Meta, during today’s meeting of the National Integration Council, conveyed the maximum appreciation towards the European Commission and EU member states, for their tireless efforts in favor of the long-awaited political decision to open membership negotiations with Albania.
In his remarks, President Meta emphasized that, European Commission and the member states, following the pandemic situation, have maintained their commitment and support for Albania, as pledged.
“We will have to read the decision of March 25 and the conclusions of the Zagreb Virtual Summit with the necessary clarity and maturity, and I believe that this is the main purpose of this meeting,” President Meta said.
“Moving forward on the European path requires, first and foremost, European behavior, where dialogue, comprehensive cooperation, and building of bridges of trust between institutions and citizens must prevail,” Meta added.
“In this context, I would like to note that the agreement reached on Electoral Reform is an important step forward. I highly appreciate the constructive contribution that Commissioner Varhelyi, the German Bundestag, other European partners, as well as the United States and the United Kingdom have made in this process. I expect agreement to continue on all the necessary electoral changes and to be finalized with the quick approval by the Parliament,” Meta stressed. //a.i/
