TIRANA, June 5 /ATA/- The Ambassador of the United States of America in Tirana Yuri Kim expressed her satisfaction with the agreement reached today with the political parties for the Electoral Reform.
“We are very pleased to see today that the Political Council has taken this decision and this important agreement has been reached. This is thanks to all those working hours from all those who have been part of it”.
“All parties, all persons present have given their contributions, but have also given up or given something. They did this in order for Albania to be the one that benefits from this, “said Kim.
“Some will criticize this agreement as insufficient. “But if we look at it in a broader context, that’s something I hope everyone will support.”
“As for the United States, we are proud of this agreement and will continue to support you on your path to the EU,” Kim said.
Likewise, the Ambassador of the European Union in Tirana Luigi Soreca welcomed today the agreement reached between the political parties for the Electoral Reform.
“We welcome this agreement. It is the result of a comprehensive process, which began in January, “he said.
In fact, Soreca stressed, “on Wednesday we had a good agreement after some good discussions, but you know that it was the United Opposition that asked to see and further examine other details, such as depoliticization of the electoral administration, which is in line with the OSCE / ODIHR recommendations and we support this progress that has been made”.
“On behalf of the EU, I would like to say that Albania is already closer to the EU, tonight after this agreement. This is because one of the conditions for the opening of accession negotiations will be met soon “, said Soreca.
“This comes at the right time, because next week the EC will propose the negotiating framework that will be the basis of negotiations between the EU and Albania. So now let’s move forward, “said Soreca.
Meanwhile, UK Ambassador Duncan Norman said, “This is a really good day at the end of a very long and difficult week of negotiations.”
“It simply came to our notice then. The agreement was made possible only because everyone had the desire and willingness to compromise. This is an important message for politics in Albania. This agreement is a very important step in terms of negotiations with the EU and also a very important step in terms of elections in Albania and for the voters themselves. However, this is only the beginning, which means that the essence will be in the implementation.
